Cirelli, Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo

Francesco Cirelli is not simply a winemaker—he’s an organic farmer in the tradition of his Italian forefathers. The Cirelli agricola is home to cherries, white geese, grains, and olives in addition to the meticulously grown Montepulciano grapes for this Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo, one of Italy’s best-known rosé styles. This is rosato with heart; just one delicious piece in the Cirelli’s puzzle of sustainable farming. The rolling hills of his native Abruzzo are studded with red-roofed houses, pockets of deep forest, and patches of wild vineyard. It’s exactly the type of place you daydream about rosé being made—just five miles from the Adriatic and soaked in sunshine. The deep calcium and clay soils of the property contribute structure, while cool nights and organic farming concentrate the Montepulciano’s bright, plummy flavors. Grapes are destemmed before a gentle press and native yeast fermentation in stainless steel. A little skin contact gives this rosé a deep blush and a touch of tannin. Fresh and sapid, this is a full-bodied and persistent bottle bursting with red fruit and nostalgia for summers in the Italian countryside.

Northwestern Italy

Piedmont

Italy’s Piedmont region is really a wine “nation”unto itself, producing world-class renditions of every type of wine imaginable: red, white, sparkling, sweet...you name it! However, many wine lovers fixate on the region’s most famous appellations—Barolo and Barbaresco—and the inimitable native red that powers these wines:Nebbiolo.

Tuscany

Chianti

The area known as “Chianti” covers a major chunk of Central Tuscany, from Pisa to Florence to Siena to Arezzo—and beyond. Any wine with “Chianti” in its name is going to contain somewhere between 70% to 100% Sangiovese, and there are eight geographically specific sub-regions under the broader Chianti umbrella.
