Maison Saint Aix, Provence Rosé- 6L

Perched at 400 meters above sea level in the rural terrain of Mont Sainte-Victoire, Maison Saint Aix’s Rosé enjoys a terroir that is simply inimitable. The striking vista that has inspired the likes of Cézanne, Picasso and Kandinsky has been home to the Maison Saint Aix winery for 130 years. Just an hour northeast of Aix-en-Provence and under an hour from the Mediterranean, this charmed spot enjoys over 300 sunny days a year, which are tempered by cool nights and the unique Mistral winds that keep the grapes dry as well as pest and disease free through the winter. These irreplicable elements coalesce to deliver a pitch-perfect rosé that greatly over-delivers for the price point.

If you were to visit the top restaurants scattered around Saint-Tropez in the next few weeks, this beauty would undoubtedly be gracing most of the wine lists. The perfect way to experience the world through rose-colored glasses, this blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 15% Cinsault and 5% Carignan is crafted with time-honored tradition coupled with modern technology by a house that focuses solely on producing the best rosé out there. The juice is separated from the must using a gentle pneumatic press then fermented in climate-controlled stainless steel tanks. The result is a wine that delivers every sensory component we all crave in a Provence rosé for a price that knows few equals on the market.

This wine displays a brilliant pale salmon pink core with light pink and green reflections on the rim. The energetic nose leaps from the glass with clean, pure aromatics of fresh tangerine, nectarine, white peach, watermelon rind, Meyer lemon infused with rose petals, Provencal herbs and wet stones. The palate is medium-plus for a rosé and full of richness and texture that permeates every corner of the mouth, balanced with the acidic freshness of pomegranate and lemon and woven into flavors of white peach, tart strawberry, rose petals and crushed chalk. Although this wine is made in a style that will be drinking beautifully over the next 12-16 months, it can easily handle a few years in the cellar. This wine is ready out of the gate and does not need much air. Simply pull from the fridge and serve in Bordeaux stems. The only obstacle this wine presents is how quickly it disappears once the cork is pulled. For a party of five, prepare to open a minimum of three bottles. As the weather warms, this is the ideal wine to open alongside anything that makes you crave the gleaming blue waters along the Mediterranean cliffs of Provence. Serve al fresco with traditional Mandarin duck for an authentic pairing that will transport you and your guests to the south of France.

France

Bourgogne

Beaujolais

Enjoying the greatest wines of Beaujolais starts, as it usually does, with the lay of the land. In Beaujolais, 10 localities have been given their own AOC (Appellation of Controlled Origin) designation. They are: Saint Amour; Juliénas; Chénas; Moulin-à Vent; Fleurie; Chiroubles; Morgon; Régnié; Côte de Brouilly; and Brouilly.

Southwestern France

Bordeaux

Bordeaux surrounds two rivers, the Dordogne and Garonne, which intersect north of the city of Bordeaux to form the Gironde Estuary, which empties into the Atlantic Ocean. The region is at the 45th parallel (California’s Napa Valley is at the38th), with a mild, Atlantic-influenced climate enabling the maturation of late-ripening varieties.

Central France

Loire Valley

The Loire is France’s longest river (634 miles), originating in the southerly Cévennes Mountains, flowing north towards Paris, then curving westward and emptying into the Atlantic Ocean near Nantes. The Loire and its tributaries cover a huge swath of central France, with most of the wine appellations on an east-west stretch at47 degrees north (the same latitude as Burgundy).

Northeastern France

Alsace

Alsace, in Northeastern France, is one of the most geologically diverse wine regions in the world, with vineyards running from the foothills of theVosges Mountains down to the Rhine River Valley below.
