Tenuta dell’Ornella “Ornellaia” Bolgheri Superiore

Ornellaia estate in Bolgheri (Tuscan Coast) has become one of the most iconic blends in all of Italy. Modeled after a Bordeaux top growth, this estate within 25 years has had a trajectory that has put them on course with the First Growths of Bordeaux. It shares the mantle with Sassicaia as one of Tuscany’s true “First Growths.” Prized for its impressive silkiness upon release, with powerful Bordeaux-line structure is a must for serious collectors. While 2017 is the current release in the marketplace. We were able to secure a cachet of back vintages in mint condition. The 2012 release was not as concentrated as some of the more current vintages, but it displays plenty of elegant appeal, hitting that perfect drinking window right now. There’s beautiful integration right out of the gate. Marvel over the pristine black and blue fruit backed by spice rack seasoning, dried morello cherry, pipe tobacco and worked leather. Creamy with a dry, mineral-driven finish. Pleasantly plush for immediate consumption, but with enough tension and structure to lay down for a few more years.

Northwestern Italy

Piedmont

Italy’s Piedmont region is really a wine “nation”unto itself, producing world-class renditions of every type of wine imaginable: red, white, sparkling, sweet...you name it! However, many wine lovers fixate on the region’s most famous appellations—Barolo and Barbaresco—and the inimitable native red that powers these wines:Nebbiolo.

Tuscany

Chianti

The area known as “Chianti” covers a major chunk of Central Tuscany, from Pisa to Florence to Siena to Arezzo—and beyond. Any wine with “Chianti” in its name is going to contain somewhere between 70% to 100% Sangiovese, and there are eight geographically specific sub-regions under the broader Chianti umbrella.
