2024 Thévenet & Fils Mâcon-Pierreclos Blanc (Chardonnay)
The Thévenet family’s Mâcon-Pierreclos remains one of the most inexplicable values in all of Burgundy, essentially serving as an inflation-proof time capsule. While neighboring Pouilly-Fuissé prices have soared into the stratosphere, this bottling from 45-year-old vines delivers the same caliber of precision and chalky complexity for a fraction of the cost. Pierreclos is widely regarded as the "sweet spot" of the Mâconnais—a terroir of sandstone and limestone that produces wines with a unique combination of sinewy thrust and rich texture. This is an unoaked window into a great terroir, allowing the earth to do the talking through laser-focused Chardonnay that punches well above its weight class.
In our previous offer for the 2023 vintage, we highlighted this wine as a "Michelin-level chef charging strip-mall bistro prices," and the 2024 release continues that legacy of incredible indulgence. On the palate, it is blossomy and electric, exploding with notes of lemon custard, fresh green apple, and a persistent salty minerality. The lees aging adds a sophisticated layer of texture that rounds out the racy acidity, making it an effortless companion for the table.
For a perfect pairing, serve it at 48°F alongside roast chicken with a Caesar salad or grilled monkfish with lemon beurre blanc. It is a textbook example of why Mâcon-Pierreclos is the insider's choice for daily White Burgundy.
