Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt is one of the Mosel’s great historical houses, with vineyard records dating to 1349 and an extraordinary portfolio spanning all three of the region’s great river valleys: Mosel, Saar, and Ruwer.

From the estate’s prized holdings in the Mosel that collectors salivate over—Josephshöfer, Scharzhofberger, and Wehlener Sonnenuhr—to its Grosse Lage holdings in the Saar and Ruwer, including Bockstein and Kaseler Nies’chen, this is a producer built to show Riesling’s full spectrum across the entire region, from featherweight Kabinett to dry Grand Cru.

A collector could spend years building a cellar of great Mosel Riesling and still miss the full regional conversation. Astonishingly, Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt compresses that conversation into a single estate. Within a portfolio this vast, this is one of the bottles that most clearly reveal the estate’s uncommon reach. A serious grand cru in its own right—and it helps to present an unusually complete picture of dry German Riesling.

Kaseler Nies’chen GG from the cool Ruwer tributary: a blue-slate grand cru of aromatic restraint, white flowers, citrus oil, deceptively deep. It begins with delicacy but gains power through its remarkable mineral persistence.

Why You'll Love It

  • A dry Grosses Gewächs from Nies'chen, a top Grosse Lage site on the Ruwer.
  • Blackcurrant, apricot, peach, and apple fruit over a mineral core.
  • Bright, energetic acidity with real concentration and structure.
  • A long, mineral finish with real aging potential.
  • From an estate with over 675 years of winegrowing history.
  • A serious, structured dry Riesling built to develop over the next decade-plus.

How To Serve It

  • Serve chilled at 48-52°F.
  • No decanting necessary.
  • Pour into a tall, tapered Riesling glass.
  • Pair with crackling-skinned pork belly and warm sauerkraut, or classic pork and game terrines, per the estate's own suggestion.
