Grosses Gewächs, often abbreviated as GG, represents the highest level of dry German wine from the prestigious VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter) classification. Created to identify Germany’s greatest vineyard sites and most exceptional producers, these wines are the country’s answer to Grand Cru Burgundy, showcasing the purest expression of place, variety, and craftsmanship. A Grosses Gewächs wine can only come from officially classified Grosse Lage vineyards, Germany’s finest vineyard sites, and must meet some of the strictest production standards in the world.
