MV Voirin-Jumel Champagne Brut l'Assemblage

MV Voirin‑Jumel is a family‑run Récoltant‑Manipulant based in the Grand Cru village of Cramant in the Côte des Blancs, where the estate has been a small anchor since the end of World War II. At the time, Jean Voirin, a local grower, began bottling his own wines instead of selling everything in bulk, and around the sane time, the Jumel family launched their own champagne production, eventually merging estates and expertise under the Voirin‑Jumel name. Today it is a true multi‑generational affair, with roughly 11–12 hectares of vineyard land spread across 11 villages in the Côte des Blancs and the Vallée de la Marne, including Cramant, Chouilly, Avize, Verneuil, Vertus, and others, all farmed with the idea that each parcel should be vinified separately before any final blend is built.

Their MV Champagne Brut “L’Assemblage” was formerly called “Brut Tradition,” and remains the domaine’s 50% Chardonnay / 50% Pinot Noir house Brut, now sleekly rebranded as the flagship entry‑level cuvée. The juice is drawn from chalky Côte des Blancs Chardonnay (notably Vertus and surrounding Grand and 1er Cru sites) and clay‑rich Vallée de la Marne Pinot Noir (often from Verneuil and nearby 1er Cru, Grand Cru villages). Each lot is vinified and aged separately, typically spending 3–4 years on the lees or more, with multiple vintages and a perpetual‑reserve (solera‑style) component blended in spring to create a consistent, layered profile. The dosage is restrained, usually around 6 g/L, and the wine is bottled by the domaine itself, so every bottle is a grower‑crafted expression of multiple terroirs, vintages, and grape varieties in balance.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Multi‑vintage, multi‑village blend that feels larger than its “entry‑level” status, with clear but integrated chalk‑driven structure from the Côte des Blancs and rounded, red‑fruited depth from the Marne‑side Pinot Noir.

  • Low‑dosage precision (around 6 g/L) lets the terroir, ripeness, and age‑on‑lees complexity shine without sugary makeup, making it both ageworthy and food‑friendly.

  • As a grower‑owned, RM‑classified Champagne, it overdelivers stylistically against large‑house blends at similar price points, offering a transparent, terroir‑driven alternative for everyday drinking and serious pairings alike.

How To Serve It

  • Temperature around 45–50°F; too cold can mute the wine’s texture and savory, saline finish.

  • Serve in all purpose white‑wine glass, which will highlight its fine mousse, red‑fruit lift, and chalky, saline backbone.

  • Pairings run from oysters, shellfish, and sushi to richer fare like roast poultry, pork, and fried dishes, thanks to its vinous mid‑palate, bright acidity, and dry, crunchy finish.
