MV Champagne Marie Demets, "Tradition" Blanc de Noirs

We are thrilled to introduce a Champagne making its debut, and one that remains incredibly hard to find across the US retail landscape: the Multi-Vintage Champagne Marie Demets "Tradition" Blanc de Noirs. This is a true "insider secret" bottle heavily favored by sommeliers and wine writers who want the deep richness and body of pure Pinot Noir without the markup of the big-name grand marque houses.

The story here is one of generational grit, tracing back to 1950 when vineyard worker André Brément planted his first tiny plot. Decades of nurturing led to the estate's official launch in 1986, and today, the torch is held by André's grandson, Pierre, and his wife Mathilde. Together, they estate-bottle everything themselves under strict lutte raisonnée (sustainable farming), preserving a fiercely independent family legacy.

To understand this wine, you have to look at its home village of Gyé-sur-Seine in the Côte des Bar. In 1911, northern power houses successfully lobbied to exclude this area from Champagne entirely, sparking the violent Champagne Riots before the south rightfully won back its status in 1927. Geologically, the north wasn't entirely wrong—this isn't the standard white chalk of Reims. Gyé-sur-Seine sits on the exact same chain of fossil-rich, Kimmeridgian clay-limestone marl that runs through Chablis. This creates a brilliant terroir paradox: the estate grows muscular, structural Pinot Noir, but infuses it with a hyper-crisp, chiseled, mineral-driven salinity that drinks like a high-end white Burgundy with bubbles.

What makes the "Tradition" bottling a certified multi-bottle target for serious Champagne fanatics is its absolute, unoaked purity. Pierre Demets builds this wine with zero wood camouflage, aging it for 8 months on the lees exclusively in stainless steel vats. He utilizes a massive 60% of aged reserve wines to build deep mid-palate complexity, finishing the wine with a razor-sharp, bone-dry dosage of just 4g/L. The result is an incredibly clean, energetic style flashing notes of wild strawberry, wet mineral paste, and freshly baked pastry. It stays remarkably light-footed, bright, and refreshing—delivering a masterfully precise alternative to heavy, manipulated blends. Secure your allocation before it sells out.

Santé!
