Domaine Vacheron, run by cousins Jean-Laurent and Jean-Dominique Vacheron, has farmed biodynamically since the mid-2000s and is known for isolating its finest parcels into single-vineyard bottlings that trace Sancerre's varied soils bottle by bottle.
Situated on a high plateau above the village of Bué, "Chambrates" is planted on deep Kimmeridgian marl and limestone, the famous terres blanches (white earths) also found on the finest slopes of Chablis. These clay-rich soils retain moisture and cool temperatures, producing a Sancerre of real power, weight, and broad-shouldered structure that rewards cellaring. The 2024 is aged in large neutral French oak foudres and neutral barrels to let its dense, marl-driven texture develop fully, delivering a serious, structured white of yellow orchard fruit, Meyer lemon, dried herbs, wet clay, and a rich, satiny texture that melts into a saline, structured finish.
Why You'll Love It
Sourced from Kimmeridgian marl (terres blanches), giving the wine real body, structure, and power.
Offers a broader, more vinous, age-worthy profile than the estate's lighter caillottes bottlings.
Complex aromatics of golden apple, candied lemon peel, wet stone, and subtle anise.
Strong aging potential, with tertiary complexity developing over a decade or more.
How To Serve It
Serve slightly cooler than room temperature, between 50°F and 54°F, to appreciate its body and depth.
Decant for 20 to 30 minutes to let its dense texture and aromatics unfurl.
Pour into all-purpose stems to frame its rich, broad structure.
Pair with butter-poached lobster tail, roasted chicken in cream sauce, or aged Gruyère.
