2024 Domaine du Pegau, Châteauneuf-du-Pape "Cuvée Réservée Blanc"

While red Châteauneuf-du-Pape claims the limelight, the appellation's white wines represent a microscopic fraction of total regional production—and Domaine du Pégaü’s Blanc is an elusive allocation that rarely lingers. Sharing the exact same pedigree and 350-year Féraud family heritage as its red counterpart, it translates the estate's revered standing into a white of profound focus and longevity. Eschewing modern oak, new barriques, and heavy lees stirring, Laurence Féraud ferments and matures this cuvée strictly in neutral concrete vats and stainless steel tanks with no fining. The result is an unadorned, crystalline expression praised by critics like Jeb Dunnuck for its purity, texture, and steadfast refusal to bend to modern cosmetic trends.

Sourced from parcels defined by limestone-rich clays, fine marine sands, and flinty pebbles, the soil provides a crucial alkaline freshness and saline minerality that cuts straight through the natural richness of the Rhône's white varieties. The wine opens with vibrant aromas of white peach, honeysuckle, Asian pear, and star anise, underlined by subtle crushed chalk. Broad and unctuously textured across the palate, it finishes with electric snap, lemon zest, and an extended, saline-drenched minerality that sets a towering standard for white Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Why You'll Love It

  • A rare, artisanal white Châteauneuf-du-Pape made without oak aging.
  • High Clairette inclusion provides white floral scents, crisp freshness, and mineral drive.
  • Richly textured yet refreshed by crisp acidity, featuring white peach, anise, and crushed limestone.

How To Serve It

  • Serve chilled, between 48°F and 52°F.
  • No decanting needed; open and pour directly from the bottle.
  • Pour into all-purpose stems to focus its floral and orchard fruit bouquet.
  • Pair with bouillabaisse, pan-seared sea bass, roasted poultry, or aged goat cheese.
