2024 Domaine Bunan, Bandol Rosé

Corrected Name: 2024 Domaines Bunan, Bandol Rosé "Moulin des Costes"

Domaines Bunan is a certified organic and biodynamic family estate founded in 1961 by brothers Paul and Pierre Bunan in La Cadière-d'Azur, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The flagship "Moulin des Costes" bottling comes from steep, south-facing hillside terraces (restanques) carved into dry, rocky clay-limestone, sandstone, and calcareous marl soils. Unlike the delicate, quaffable rosés of broader Provence, Bandol rosés are built around Mourvèdre, delivering serious structure, ageability, and food versatility.

Harvested entirely by hand with rigorous sorting, the 2024 release blends direct-press Mourvèdre (providing structure, earth, and savory depth) with Cinsault (for freshness and floral perfume) and Grenache (for rounded red fruit). Fermented with native yeasts and aged on fine lees in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, the 2024 vintage showcases a pale peach-salmon hue with aromas of blood orange, wild strawberries, white peach, crushed fennel, sea spray, and Mediterranean garrigue, backed by fine chalky grip and vibrant coastal acidity.

Why You’ll Love it

  • Sourced from certified organic and biodynamic terraced vines overlooking the Mediterranean.

  • High Mourvèdre concentration delivers serious structural grip, spice, and longevity far beyond typical Provence rosés.

  • Balances bright citrus and orchard fruit with wild fennel, savory herbs, and saline limestone drive.

How To Serve It

  • Serve chilled between 50°F and 54°F (avoid over-chilling so the complex Mourvèdre aromatics and texture remain expressive).

  • No decanting required; open and pour directly, allowing it to uncoil in the glass.

  • Pour into all-purpose white wine stems to gather its savory herbal and stone-fruit perfume.

  • Pair with bouillabaisse, grilled sea bass, ratatouille, roast chicken with herbs de Provence, or lamb chops with rosemary.
