WHERE IT GROWS
Bucelas, a true hidden gem among Portugal’s white wine regions, is located just north of Lisbon. It’s an historic enclave where the Arinto grape achieves its most electric expression from vineyards that thrive on limestone-rich soils and benefit from a temperate, Atlantic-influenced climate. Sheltered by the surrounding undulated hills, the area enjoys cool breezes and foggy mornings, ideal conditions for the Arinto grape to develop vibrant acidity and complex flavors.
WHO MADE IT
Boas Quinas is part of a dynamic new wave of producers reawakening Bucelas’ winemaking legacy. Led by winemaker Nuno Cancela de Abreu, this is a team dedicated to authenticity and crafting wines that capture the true spirit of the region: energetic, expressive, and true to their roots. Nuno is now the 4th generation of his family that has continuously fared the region since 1884 and he felt that he inherited the responsibility to continue the work of the three generations before him. Although Nuno Cancela de Abreu might not grab the international headlines that he deserves, he is well known locally and was recognized as “Winemaker of the Year 2016” by famed Portuguese wine critic, Aníbal Coutinho.
HOW IT’S MADE
Hand-harvested and gently pressed, with fermentation at cool temperatures to capture aromatic purity. Aged predominantly in stainless steel tanks, occasional lees stirring adds texture without masking freshness. Minimal intervention with careful monitoring ensures that the wine is able to express its natural vibrancy, minerality and clean, precise profile.
WHAT IT TASTES LIKE
Bursting with zesty lemon, green apple, and delicate white floral aromas. On the palate, it’s brisk and linear, underpinned by a pronounced chalky minerality and a refreshing saline edge. The finish is long, pure, and invigorating—an archetype of Bucelas, and a superb partner for fresh seafood or as a lively aperitif.
