2023 Clos Cibonne, Côtes de Provence Rosé "Tradition"

This classic bottle on your table instantly indicates fine wine street cred. There’s simply no other rosé in the world like it. Tibouren is a viticultural treasure of Provence: a transportative grape that transmits the aromas of her herbaceous hillside and converts her intense sunshine into lip smacking, palate-staining fruit quite like it. Clos Cibonne is hands down the best and most famous Tibouren rosé, from one of Côtes de Provence’s 18 crus classés, and a mark of quality for 70 years.

A sip of Clos Cibonne rosé is a step back in time 120 years. This vineyard is one of 18 Crus Classés of Côtes de Provence, from a family that played a role in creating the Côtes de Provence AOC in 1973. On windy bluffs overlooking Toulon, near Bandol, fifth-generation winemaker Olivier Deforges and only one other employee craft this wine from 90% Tibouren and 10% Grenache. They raise the wine in 120+ year old foudres under flor, as is done in the Jura and Jerez, imparting savory, exotic aromas and transmitting the sea breeze that the thin-skinned Tibouren requires to thrive.

Why You’ll Love It:

  • Inimitable goût de terroir: Mediterranean sea breeze, roasted Provençal herbs, and citrus rind flavors sing in harmony.

  • Utterly traditional, artisanal, and charismatic; a cultural treasure of the Côte d’Azur.

  • Knowing glances and a jealous nod from any serious French wine collector.

How to Serve it:

  • Age for up to TEN years! Cibonne holds and improves with age.

  • Pour and serve at 40℉ in white wine stems

  • Ultimate pairing: Chicken roasted on a bed of tomatoes, white onion, garlic cloves, oil-cured olives, and herbes de provence. Deglaze the pan with butter and white wine to make a decadent sauce. Alternatively, try pan-seared rougets (red mullet) finished with a little butter and lemon and parsley.
