2023 Bodega Chacra, Pinot Noir “Lunita, Rio Negro Valley

Bodega Chacra sits in the Río Negro Valley of northern Patagonia, where dry desert conditions, low humidity, and the meeting of Andean river systems create one of the purest viticultural environments in South America. Founded in 2004 by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta, whose family history is rooted in Sassicaia, the estate was built around a simple ambition: to let Mainqué speak with as little interference as possible. Certified organic and biodynamic, Chacra works with a clear sense of place, making Pinot Noir that is transparent, floral, and finely mineral rather than ripe or muscular.

Lunita is one of the estate’s most intimate wines, drawn from a very old, tiny, ungrafted vineyard that Piero and his team brought back to life over more than a decade. Fermented in whole clusters with a gentle infusion approach, it is handled to preserve perfume and finesse, not to force extraction or density. The result is a Pinot Noir of quiet authority: lifted, precise, and deeply rooted in the sand, stone, and desert light of Patagonia.

Why You’ll Love It

  • It delivers a rare, old-vine Patagonia Pinot Noir profile: floral, silken, and highly aromatic, with real site character.

  • The 2023 vintage was called the best Lunita ever, and the wine earned 98 points for good reason: it is both delicate and deeply persistent.

  • Its infusion-based winemaking gives the wine a graceful, unforced texture that feels closer to perfume than power.

How to Serve It

  • Serve it with a slight chill, around 58–63°F, to keep the aromatics lifted and the texture precise.

  • Pair it with duck, roasted salmon, mushroom dishes, or simply prepared game birds that echo its savory finesse.

  • Use a Burgundy glass to give the wine room to open; Lunita is about nuance, not volume.
