2022 Fratelli Alessandria, Barolo "Gramolere", Monforte d'Alba

Unusually for a Verduno-based estate, Fratelli Alessandria owns a coveted parcel in Gramolere, an iconic MGA located in Monforte d'Alba. This site stands in stark contrast to their home vineyards in Verduno: Monforte is famed for its Diano Sandstone soils rich in iron and clay, yielding Barolos of immense muscularity, firm tannic structure, and deep, dark fruit profiles.

The 2022 "Gramolere" captures this vineyard's serious, broad-shouldered nature. Aged for 30 months in large Slavonian oak casks, it balances dark plum, black cherry, leather, tar, and iron-like minerality. It is the most powerful and structured Barolo in the estate's lineup, built for long-term cellar maturation.

Why You'll Love It

  • Showcases the darker, more muscular side of Barolo from Monforte d'Alba.
  • Deep, complex layers of dark fruit, dried leather, iron, and savory tobacco.
  • High structural integrity and firm tannins give it multi-decade cellaring potential.

How To Serve It

  • Serve at cool room temperature between 60°F and 64°F.
  • We strongly recommend decanting for 1.5 to 2 hours in its youth.
  • Pour into burgundy stems to give the dense aromatics room to open.
  • Pair with braised beef short ribs (brasato al Barolo), roasted game, or aged Parmigiano.
