Domaine Roger Perrin is a long-established family estate based in Orange, in the northern part of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and is now run by Xavier Perrin. The domaine works more than 70 separate plots across the appellation's classic soils, from rounded quartzite galets roulés to sandy clay and limestone, and its Grenache vines average more than 60 years old.
The 2022 is about 65% Grenache, rounded out with Syrah, Mourvèdre and a little Cinsault. Fermented in temperature-controlled tanks and aged in concrete, large oak foudres and neutral barrels, it captures the warmth of the vintage while keeping its herbal freshness: black raspberry, kirsch, dark plum, garrigue, lavender, cured meat and black pepper, wrapped in smooth, velvety tannins.
