Bodegas Frontonio was founded by Master of Wine Fernando Mora and Mario López in the rugged, high-altitude Valdejalón area of Aragón in northern Spain. The project is dedicated to rescuing historic old bush vines, many of them long abandoned, planted on steep mountain slopes. The vines are farmed organically and without irrigation, and the winemaking is low-intervention, aimed at capturing the freshness these cool, high sites can deliver.
"Supersónico" comes from old-vine Garnacha grown above 800 meters on slate, quartz, and limestone. The 2022 fermented spontaneously in concrete with a portion of whole clusters, then aged in a mix of concrete, neutral wooden casks, and large French oak foudres. The altitude preserves remarkable lift, giving a Garnacha that feels light on its feet without losing depth.
Why You'll Love It
Mountain Garnacha built on energy and finesse rather than heft, from an estate led by a Master of Wine.
Wild raspberry and pomegranate on the nose, with pink peppercorn and dried thyme.
Whole-cluster fermentation adds botanical spice and a lifted, perfumed edge.
Crushed slate minerality carries through to a long, weightless finish.
Versatile at the table, especially alongside roasted and grilled meats.
How To Serve It
Serve with a light chill, between 56°F and 60°F.
Decant for 30 minutes to let the wild berry and herbal aromatics open up.
Pour into Burgundy stems to concentrate its delicate floral perfume.
Pair with slow-roasted pork shoulder with smoked paprika, duck breast with a cherry and black pepper sauce, rosemary-grilled lamb chops, or a wild mushroom ragù.
