In 1977 Alain Gautheron, the 6th generation in a line of Chablis vignerons, joined his father Jean in the family domaine located about 4 kilometers from the town of Chablis. At that time, the domaine was comprised of a mere 8 hectares and was selling around 10,000 bottles a year. Alain decided to get serious and, with the help of his father, grew the domaine’s holdings. This under-the-radar producer crafts wines from 1er Cru and Grand Cru sites that are a fraction of the price of Chassagne-Montrachet, Meursault, and Puligny-Montrachet.
The most famous 1er Cru of Chablis, it is unarguably the most well-recognized premier cru for quality, sometimes on par with the Grand Crus. One of the better values for 1er Cru Chablis. Full-bodied and balanced, Montée de Tonnerre is a subtle blend of minerality with notes of salinity, finesse, and elegance.
Beautiful pale white gold color with soft green highlights, the Chablis Montee de Tonnerre Premier Cru has a frank and deep nose. It expresses subtle notes of blond caramels, white flowers and butter. The palate is intense and subtle. It is distinguished by a harmony between richness, power of the fruit and delicate oak.
