2020 Michel Gay et Fils, Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru “Serpentieres”

Nestled on the prime, south-facing hillside just beneath the hill of Corton, “Aux Serpentières” is widely considered one of Savigny’s finest Premier Crus—and Sébastien Gay knows exactly how to make it sing. Committed to meticulous organic farming and intense hand-sorting, he crafts a Pinot Noir that brilliantly emphasizes pure, unforced luxury. Utilizing a gentle gravity-flow system in the cellar and a remarkably restrained hand with new wood, this bottling delivers a beautifully fleshy, traditional Burgundian profile that values vibrant terroir over heavy-handed cellar intervention.

The 2020 vintage is a brilliant, eye-catching ruby that practically leaps from the glass with a striking perfume of ripe red cherries, black pepper, and subtle accents of wild rose petals. On the palate, it is wonderfully supple and medium-bodied, balancing a deep, juicy core of fresh raspberry and dark summer berries with velvety, fine-grained tannins. Energetic acidity keeps the wine exceptionally lively, driving into a long, complex finish accented by classic notes of damp earth and baking spice. This elegant, texturally seamless red is an absolute dream alongside roasted duck, veal scallopini, or an earthy mushroom tart.
