2020 Andrew Will, “Sorella”, Champoux Vineyard, Horse Heaven Hills

Since the late 1980s, Andrew Will has championed a "site over winemaker" philosophy, establishing an iconic stature through pure expressions of the Columbia Valley. Their mission reaches its peak with Sorella, a flagship Cabernet blend that serves as a liquid map of the hallowed Champoux Vineyard. By prioritizing the volcanic soils of this "Grand Cru" site, Andrew Will has created a domestic icon that consistently delivers First Growth pedigree; indeed, Wine Advocate has validated this excellence with a staggering track record of 94-99 point ratings nearly every year since its inception.

What makes Sorella so special is its remarkable restraint and architectural finesse, standing in stark contrast to the often opulent, high-alcohol profiles of Napa Valley’s blue-chip Cabernets. Instead of raw power, Sorella offers a sophisticated "Left Bank" sensibility more in line with the floral elegance of Margaux or the structured precision of St. Julien. It is defined by savory graphite, vibrant acidity, and silky tannins—qualities that have cemented its reputation as one of the most consistent and age-worthy American flagships in existence.

The 2020 Sorella is a masterwork of this restrained philosophy, hitting the palate with a balance of power and grace that feels both muscular and refined. Sourced from the oldest vines in the Horse Heaven Hills, it leads with a signature bouquet of cassis and crushed violets, supported by a structural backbone built to evolve for decades. For the serious collector, this vintage represents the definitive statement of Washington winemaking: a wine of class, mineral depth, and timeless sophistication.

Critical Acclaim:

98 Points, Wine Advocate:

Robert Parker Wine Advocate Logo
"Made from a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2020 Sorella is fresh yet restrained and has a focused and red-fruited core of spiced potpourri. The nose is slightly compressed at the moment and takes some spinning in the glass to coax some of the more delicate and seductive nuances, revealing layers of complexity. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, this is a gorgeous, world-class wine whose true power comes from not being bold and massive but rather from being delicate, finessed and focused. The wine is balanced on the palate, with a compact frame, elegant structure, succulent acidity and fine-grained tannins before uncoiling across the mid-palate. The wine glides to a seductive and lingering finish and will undoubtedly be well-received when it is released in early 2025. It’s a fantastic bottling of Sorella, and I’ll end with a parting note that I shared with Chris and Will Camarda: “Bigger isn’t better... BETTER is better! This may be one of the most delicate Sorella bottlings I’ve had in many years. Although it comes in a more compact frame, the 2020 is just as devastatingly gorgeous as any I’ve had.” Only 9,030 bottles were filled after the wine rested for 22 months in 30% new French oak barrels." - Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate, May 2023
