2019 Podere Brizio, Brunello di Montalcino

Podere Brizio is a historic, certified organic estate on the southwestern slopes of Montalcino, benefiting from warm Mediterranean sunshine balanced by cool sea breezes. Part of the Dievole group, the winery is managed with a deep commitment to sustainable viticulture and classic, unmanipulated winemaking. The estate's high-elevation vineyards, around 330 to 350 meters, are planted on ancient marl and clay soils rich in limestone, yielding Sangiovese of remarkable perfume, elegance, and structural drive.

The 2019 vintage is regarded as an all-time classic across Montalcino, offering structural perfection and vibrant freshness. Hand-harvested Sangiovese Grosso fruit was fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel before extended aging for 38 months in large 54-hectoliter French oak casks (botti), followed by more than a year of bottle rest. The 2019 Podere Brizio showcases the traditional southwestern Montalcino profile: generous red fruit, earthy spice, and refined, chalky tannins that provide fantastic longevity.

Why You'll Love It

  • Sourced from a top-tier 2019 vintage celebrated for its balance, structure, and aging potential.
  • Classically aged in large neutral oak casks to preserve pure varietal purity and sense of place.
  • Brimming with red cherries, dried cranberries, orange peel, leather, wild thyme, and crushed stone.
  • Medium-to-full-bodied with lively natural acidity and fine, dusty tannins that finish clean and savory.

How To Serve It

  • Serve at cool room temperature between 60°F and 64°F.
  • We recommend decanting for 1 to 1.5 hours to let the tight 2019 structure loosen.
  • Pour into Burgundy stems to capture its high-toned dried floral and red-fruit aromatics.
  • Pair with wild boar ragù, Florentine T-bone steak (bistecca alla fiorentina), or aged Pecorino Toscano.
