2019 Castello di Verduno, Barbaresco "Rabajà"

Castello di Verduno is a historic estate owned by the Burlotto and Blanco families, operating out of the real 18th-century castle in Verduno where King Carlo Alberto of Savoy once made wine. While headquartered in Verduno, the estate owns prime historic parcels in Barbaresco, most notably within Rabajà, one of Barbaresco's premier single vineyards, situated on a dramatic ridge of Tortonian blue marl and limestone in the commune of Barbaresco.

The 2019 vintage in Rabajà produced a standout wine. Farmed sustainably and crafted using traditional methods, including open-top oak fermentation and extended aging in large Slavonian oak casks, the 2019 Rabajà strikes a balance between power and elegance. It delivers dark red cherries, dried plum, violet, leather, tar, and crushed rock, supported by firm, fine-grained tannins and vibrant natural acidity.

Why You'll Love It

  • Sourced from Rabajà, one of the most sought-after single vineyards in Barbaresco.
  • Hails from the landmark 2019 vintage, offering classic structure, depth, and cellar longevity.
  • Traditional cask aging permits complex nuances of leather, dried rose, cherry, and mineral earth to take center stage.

How To Serve It

  • Serve at cool room temperature between 60°F and 63°F.
  • Decant for 1.5 to 2 hours to help the tight 2019 Nebbiolo structure relax.
  • Pour into burgundy stems to frame its intricate, perfumed bouquet.
  • Pair with agnolotti del plin, roasted lamb shoulder, or braised duck.
