2019 Cantine Luciani Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

Cantine Luciani has farmed the eastern slope of the Montalcino hill since 1888, an area of Tuscany with a long-standing reputation for producing some of Brunello's most structured, age-worthy wines. The estate spans more than 50 hectares, and every step, from trellising system to grape selection at harvest, is managed to balance yield against concentration, with Riserva bottlings made only in the estate's most favorable vintages.

This Riserva is 100% Sangiovese, selected from the estate's best parcels and fermented naturally before at least four years in barrel, considerably longer than the DOCG's baseline requirement. A further year or more of bottle aging follows before release, giving the wine time to fold its ripe fruit, leather, and spice into a single, seamless whole.

Why You'll Love It

  • A Riserva made only in the estate's finest vintages, aged a minimum of four years in barrel plus over a year in bottle before release.
  • Garnet red in the glass, with intense aromas of ripe, almost jammy fruit alongside leather and warm spice.
  • Powerful, persistent tannins built to stand up to slow-braised and long-cooked dishes.
  • Critics note a nose of dried flowers and violets alongside dark cherry and a subtle thread of licorice.
  • 100% Sangiovese from an estate that has farmed Montalcino's eastern hillside since 1888.
  • A structured, age-worthy Brunello with real cellaring potential from an exceptional 2019 vintage.

How To Serve It

  • Serve at 68°F, noticeably warmer than most reds, per the estate's own recommendation.
  • Open at least two hours before serving, or decant for 1-2 hours, to let the wine's tannins soften.
  • Pour into Burgundy stems.
  • Pair with braised short ribs, wild boar ragù, or a long-cooked game stew.
