Ça va sans dire—it goes without saying. Some wines demand a long explanation, while others immediately prove their brilliance in the glass. This is Timorasso, Italy’s most electric, somm-obsessed white, dialed to absolute perfection. Held back on the fine lees for nearly a decade, this 2017 release hits the palate like a Grand Cru Chablis with its throttle pinned—laser-focused, mouthwatering, and driven by intense mineral cut. For serious white collectors searching off the beaten path, this is your new North Star. Our Wine Team just tasted and it’s incredibly energizing on the palate.
The story behind it is just as compelling. Winemaker Natale Simonetta and his wife Francesca run this tiny Neviglie estate, famous for safeguarding the historic Nebbiolo Rosé clone. Natale carries a serious viticultural pedigree—his great-grandfather was Angelo Gaja’s grandfather, and he refined his craft learning from the legendary Bruno Giacosa. For this bottling, he sourced fruit from a friend's windswept 0.8-hectare parcel in Casasco, planted back in the 1950s. These ancient vines, sitting 480 meters on lime-rich clay, yield a tiny crop that is cold-transported, gently-pressed, and aged for nine years in neutral French oak before release.
Out of just 300 six-packs produced worldwide, we managed to secure a meager 36 bottles for our Italian faithful. Unfolding with white orchard fruit, crushed limestone, dried herbs, and high-strung acidity, it delivers raw sensory overload with serious cellaring potential. Once these 36 bottles vanish, that’s it—don't miss out on one of the rarest, most captivating Italian whites of the decade. We feature Timorasso once or twice a year, but this effort sets a whole new benchmark.
Molte Grazie!
