2016 Château de Nalys, Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grand Vin

Château de Nalys is one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s oldest names, with roots that reach back to the 16th century and a formal estate lineage dating to 1633, when Jacques Nalis was entrusted with the property by the Archbishopric of Avignon. Through revolution, changes of ownership, and a long quiet stretch, the domaine remained tied to some of the appellation’s most hallowed ground, including La Crau, before being it was revived and came roaring back by the Guigal family in 2017.

The 2016 Grand Vin comes from an estate with 50-60 year-old vines, multiple classic Châteauneuf terroirs, and a traditional blend led by Grenache and shaped by Syrah (with  some Mourvèdre, Counoise, and Vaccarèse.) From a classic 2016 vintage and 6 years of bottle age, this wine is a masterpiece: ripe, layered, and polished, velvety, spicy and silky.

Critical Acclaim:

Robert Parker Wine Advocate Logo

95 Points, Wine Advocate:

"Destined to become Nalys’s new flagship (unless the white version steals the show), the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Grand Vin is a blend of 59% Grenache, 32% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre, 3% Counoise and 1% Vaccarèse. It’s full-bodied and velvety, offering hints of vanilla and sandalwood, but there also are layers of dark cherry fruit. Subtle notes of cinnamon, clove and allspice add interest to the long, silky finish. It’s an auspicious debut for the Guigal team."

Why You'll Love It

  • Real Châteauneuf depth: dark fruit, spice, and a mineral edge.

  • Plush but not heavy, perfectly bottle aged ready now and room to age.

  • Historic estate, hallowed ground and a Guigal Family revival

How to Serve It

  • Pair it with roast lamb, short ribs, duck, or anything with herbs and savory richness.
