2010 Château Lynch-Moussas, Pauillac 5th Growth

Château Lynch-Moussas dates to the 16th century, with the Lynch name attached through Count Jean-Baptiste Lynch in the 18th century. The Castéja family, owners of the négociant house Borie-Manoux, purchased the estate in 1919 and have run it ever since; Emile Castéja led a major replanting and restoration beginning in the late 1960s. Today the 60-hectare vineyard sits on gravel, clay, sand, and limestone soils, farmed for structure and Cabernet Sauvignon-driven fruit.

The 2010 vintage, one of the Left Bank's most celebrated modern years, is a 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Merlot blend fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel and aged in French oak, roughly half new, for 14 to 18 months. The result is a firmly structured, age-worthy Pauillac with dense blackberry and cassis fruit, tobacco leaf, and substantial, well-built tannins that reward patience.

Why You'll Love It

  • A structured, age-worthy Fifth Growth from the celebrated 2010 vintage.
  • Blackberry, cassis, and tobacco leaf on both the nose and palate.
  • Firm, substantial tannins built for the cellar or a hearty meal.
  • A vintage widely regarded as one of the finest classic years for the Left Bank.
  • Rated 89 points by The Wine Cellar Insider.
  • Sixteen years on, the wine is settling into a beautiful drinking window.

How To Serve It

  • Serve at 60-65°F.
  • Decant for 1 to 2 hours to soften the still-firm tannins.
  • Pour into a Bordeaux stem.
  • Pair with a grilled bone-in ribeye and Bordelaise sauce, or a rosemary-scented rack of lamb.
