2024 Grosset, Riesling "Polish Hill", Clare Valley

Riesling may be overlooked in some circles, but it remains one of the world’s noble grape varieties—revered for its purity, longevity, and ability to reflect terroir. While Germany holds the crown for historical greatness, outliers of brilliance have emerged across the globe. And none shine brighter than Grosset’s “Polish Hill” Riesling from Australia’s Clare Valley.

This bone-dry, electric marvel is widely considered the most heralded Riesling outside Germany, and the 2024 vintage is its most decorated yet. Named White Wine of the Year and Riesling of the Year by Australian wine authority Tyson Stelzer, it earned a staggering 98 points, the highest ever awarded to this wine. It also received 97 points from James Halliday, The Wine Advocate, and James Suckling, placing it among the elite tier of global Rieslings.

With just 25 cases imported into the country, calling it 'limited' barely scratches the surface.

The vineyard itself is a study in struggle and character. Planted by Jeffrey Grosset in 1996, the eight-hectare site sits on 500-million-year-old blue slate—a “hard rock” terrain where vines fight for survival. The result? Tiny berries, small bunches, and flavors that seem to echo through geological time.

The 2024 vintage is a Polish Hill for the ages: intensely fragrant, with pure lime juice intensity, slate-driven minerality, and a bone-dry structure that tingles across the palate. It’s captivating in youth yet built to cellar for two decades.

And here’s the clincher: while comparable German Grosses Gewächs Rieslings from iconic producers fetch nearly twice the price, Grosset’s Polish Hill offers exceptional pedigree and precision at a fraction of the cost.

This is not just a wine—it’s a legacy in a bottle for an affordable price.

Press Accolades:

97 Points, Wine Advocate:

"This is a benchmark in Australian Riesling and widely loved by collectors. The wine ages gracefully and slowly; the latent power that is stowed away on release is revealed in time, making this one of the greats in Australia. So here, the 2024 Polish Hill Riesling is thunderous and rolling in its intensity and energy. The citrus fruits gather speed over a grounding of crushed rocks and minerals, while the finish culminates in a sandstorm of flavor and texture. This is an excellent wine. It is fleshy and powerful, tightly coiled and salty. It's so good. 12.1% alcohol, sealed under screw cap."

97 Points, JamesSuckling.com:

Intensely complex and inviting aromas of flint, lemon peel, crushed stones, gun smoke and white nectarines. The palate is tightly wound, with laser-like acidity and underlying power, giving notes of grapefruit peel, orange blossoms and candied lime zest. An Australian classic that’s been made every year since 1981. It will age for decades to come. Excellent.
