Four Bottles from the Heart of Tuscany
Brunello di Montalcino captures Sangiovese at its most profound: aromatic, savory, structured, and built to evolve. This collection follows that spectrum through four distinctive estates, from a quietly personal family bottling to a small organic farm on Montalcino's western flank, a powerful southern expression, and a flagship Riserva from the historic Pianrosso vineyard. Tasted in this order, the wines build naturally from lifted red fruit and supple tannin toward darker fruit, greater depth, and a resonant, cellar-worthy finish.
Bramante Cosimi, Brunello di Montalcino
"The Family Legacy"
Rudy Cosimi's roots in Montalcino run deep. This cuvée honors his grandfather, a local tractor repairman, while the Sangiovese vines were planted by his father decades ago. From sandy, fossil-rich soils and mature vines, it opens with ripe cherry, blood orange, crushed violet, and dried Tuscan herbs, all grounded by a hint of sweet leather. The palate finds a graceful middle ground: medium-to-full-bodied, bright with acidity, and carried by fine, velvety tannins into a long, dusty-mineral finish. An elegant introduction to the pack.
Pair with: Roasted pork loin, tagliatelle with mushroom ragù, or aged Pecorino Toscano.
Bolsignano, Brunello di Montalcino
"The Organic Traditionalist"
On Montalcino's western flank, Roberto Rubegni farms a small Tavernelle estate with a deliberately hands-on approach, including draft horses in the vineyard rows. Certified-organic Sangiovese from marl, limestone, and clay is fermented with indigenous yeast and raised in neutral oak, resulting in a Brunello of real clarity and structure. Ripe black cherry and wild blackberry meet gingerbread, dried orange peel, cedar, tobacco, and crushed limestone, while integrated, grippy tannins lengthen the savory finish. This is the point in the tasting where the frame of the wines begins to broaden.
Pair with: Wild boar ragù over hand-cut pappardelle, or grilled bistecca alla Fiorentina with rosemary and cracked black pepper.
Tenuta Fanti, Brunello di Montalcino "Vallocchio"
"The Powerful Expression"
The Fanti family has worked the land around Montalcino for generations, and Vallocchio represents the pinnacle of their estate. Sourced from mature vines in the southern reaches of the appellation and aged in both French barriques and larger Slavonian casks, it shows the muscular side of Brunello without sacrificing poise. Intense aromas of dark plum, blackberry, and espresso lead into a full-bodied palate of dense, velvety tannins. The long finish echoes with dark chocolate, tobacco, and ripe dark fruit, making this the pack's richest standard bottling.
Pair with: Roasted lamb, wild boar, truffle pasta, or slow-braised short rib.
Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna di Pianrosso Santa Caterina d'Oro
"The Flagship Finale"
Our final bottle comes from the celebrated Vigna di Pianrosso, where marl-rich soils shape one of Montalcino's great Riserva expressions. Meticulously selected Sangiovese undergoes a long maceration and extended aging before release, yielding a wine of exceptional depth and authority. Plum, blackberry, dried orange peel, cedar, rose petal, tobacco, and exotic spice unfurl from the glass, while the palate is full-bodied and velvety, held in tension by fresh acidity and powerful, polished tannins. It finishes with lasting notes of salted licorice and mocha: a fittingly complex conclusion and the bottle most deserving of a place in the cellar.
Pair with: Slow-roasted game, bistecca alla Fiorentina, aged Pecorino, or enjoy after dinner with time in a large glass.
