2022 E. Guigal, Côte-Rôtie "La Turque"

In the world of blue-chip wine collecting, E. Guigal’s single-site Côte-Rôtie icons stand at the absolute apex of the Northern Rhône. Positioned on a razor-steep, terraced slope on the Côte Brune, “La Turque” serves as the dark-fruited, intensely structured counterweight to its sister site across the valley. Here, the soils shift dramatically to dark mica-schist and iron-rich clay, imparting a distinct mineral weight, dark spice, and muscular architecture to the wine. Co-fermented with 7% Viognier and raised for 42 months in 100% new French oak, this tiny parcel yields one of the most age-worthy, complex expressions of Syrah produced anywhere on Earth.

Deep, dark, and brooding in color, “La Turque” opens with complex aromatics of wild black raspberries, scorched earth, espresso bean, smoked meats, and exotic dried spices. The palate is full-bodied, dense, and tightly coiled, displaying immense flavor concentration framed by an intricate, fine-grained web of firm tannins. A savory, iron-like streak carries through to a exceptionally long finish. Built for long-haul cellaring, this is a monumental single-site icon that will reward patient collectors handsomely over the next 20 to 30 years.

Critical Acclaim:

Jeb Dunnuck Wine Logo

96-98 Points, Jeb Dunnuck:

"Darker and more inward, cassis, graphite, crushed stone, and liquid violets define the 2022 Côte Rôtie La Turque, and it picks up more gamey, smoky, black olive notes with air. Made from 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier and aged 42 months in new oak, it shows a more structured, focused profile than La Mouline, with full-bodied richness, impressive concentration, and a great finish."

Vinous Wine Media Logo

95-98 Points, Vinous Media:

"The magnificent 2022 Côte-Rôtie La Turque wafts up with espresso, blackcurrant, black cherry, pencil shavings, crushed violets and wood smoke. Dark and brooding, this is a remarkably charming La Turque, much more so than the muscular 2019 or 2020. Nonetheless, the 2022 La Turque is framed by an intricate tannic web and marked by elevated flavor concentration, ending with ample persistence on the complex finish."
