2020 Domaine Arnoux Pere et Fils, Aloxe-Corton AOC Village

Domaine Arnoux Père et Fils is a long-running family estate in Chorey-lès-Beaune, with roots that stretch across five generations and a style built on tradition and continuity. Their 2020 Aloxe-Corton comes from a small 0.80-hectare parcel planted in 1977 on the Corton hillside, where reddish-brown, limestone-laced soils and a south/southwest exposure give Pinot Noir a lot more structure, depth, and savory edge than one would ever expect from the word “village” alone. The wine is traditionally made: hand-harvested, cold-macerated, fermented with native yeasts, then aged in barrel before a final rest in tank, a process that keeps the fruit focused while allowing the site’s firm, mineral backbone to show through.

Aloxe-Corton sits at the northern edge of the Côte de Beaune, but its reputation punches far above its village status because it shares the Corton hill with grand cru names like Corton and Corton-Charlemagne. The Aloxe-Corton AOC is unusually important as it includes 14 premier cru climats and three grand cru climats, making it one of Burgundy’s clearest examples of how geography, hierarchy, and terroir intersect in a single village. In that context, Arnoux’s 2020 is a textbook Corton-hill red: firm, spicy, ageworthy, and more serious than most village wines at this price point.

Why You'll Love It

  • It delivers the Aloxe-Corton signature: dark fruit, spice, and a savory, structured frame that feels distinctly Burgundian.

  • The parcel is tiny and the intent is clear, so the wine feels specific, not generic.

  • It has the kind of built-in tension and aging potential that rewards patience, especially in a strong 2020 vintage.

How To Serve It

  • Serve at a cool 57–62 F in Burgundy bowls.

  • A 30 minute decant will help the spice and darker fruit come forward.

  • Pair it with roast duck, mushroom dishes, game birds, or anything with earthy depth and gentle richness.
