2024 Clos du Caillou, "Les Safres" Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc

White Châteauneuf-du-Pape accounts for a microscopic 7% of the entire region's output, making top bottlings nearly impossible to track down. Today we’re dropping a first-to-market US Exclusive on the 2024 Le Clos du Caillou Les Safres Blanc. Scoring a massive 95 Points from Jeb Dunnuck and 94 Points from James Suckling, this fully biodynamic banger easily outplays heavyweights retailing for $80–$125+, standing as one of the single best value high-scoring CdP Blancs on the market.

The secret? Caillou’s 40- to 50-year-old vines sit in the legendary Les Bédines lieu-dit in Courthézon, right next door to Château Rayas and Pignan. Unlike the heat-retaining cobblestones (galets) found elsewhere, Caillou’s rare pure yellow sand (safres) acts as a natural air conditioner. Under the guidance of winemaker Bruno Gaspard, it locks in electric freshness, silky textures, and a chalky minerality that heavy stones just can't match.

Crafted from 40% Grenache Blanc, 30% Roussanne, and 30% Clairette with minimal oak, this ultimate Chardonnay alternative unleashes a luminous pour loaded with white peach, crisp green pear, citrus blossom, star anise, and frangipane. The mouthfeel is supple yet weightless, finishing on a long, saline, mineral-driven note. White allocations this small never stick around, so grab a multi-bottle pack for handsome tiered savings while our exclusive stateside stash lasts!

Santé!

Critical Acclaim:

Jeb Dunnuck Wine Logo

95 Points, Jeb Dunnuck:

“Based on 40% Grenache Blanc, 30% Roussanne, and 30% Clairette from the sandy Safre soils of les Bédines, the 2024 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Safres Blanc was fully destemmed and aged four months in neutral French oak barrels. Wonderfully pure stone fruits, honeyed orange, minty herbs, and floral nuances define the aromatics. It's medium-bodied, fresh, and focused on the palate, with flawlessly integrated acidity and an undeniable sense of minerality on the finish. There are roughly 216 cases produced of this brilliant white, which can be enjoyed over the coming 10-15 years. Drink 2025-2040.”

James Suckling Wine Logo

94 Points, James Suckling:

"A succulent, balanced and focused white, offering aromas of stone fruits, dried herbs, pears skins and some mild spices. Medium-bodied, nicely rounded and precise palate with plenty of flavor and texture in the long finish. From organically grown grapes."
