Quercecchio is a small, family-run estate in the Tavernelle area of southern Montalcino, where the vineyards share the hillsides with natural forest and Mediterranean scrub. The soils here are rich in galestro, a crumbly clay-shale, mixed with gravel. The estate farms its own Sangiovese Grosso and works in a traditional, low-intervention style that lets the warm, generous, spicy character of southern Montalcino come through.
The 2024 Rosso di Montalcino is the estate's fresher, earlier-drinking counterpart to its Brunello. The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel, then rest for 6 to 12 months in large, neutral Slavonian oak botti. These big old casks add texture without imposing wood flavor, so the wine stays focused on pure red fruit and savory Tuscan detail.
Why You'll Love It
Classic, food-friendly Tuscan Sangiovese with energy and polish, made for the dinner table.
The nose opens with wild red cherry and red plum, lifted by dried oregano and a twist of orange zest.
On the palate, bright natural acidity carries the fruit, with a savory thread of leather underneath.
Fine, dusty tannins frame a clean, mouthwatering finish.
A wine that works across a whole week of dinners, from pasta night to the Sunday roast.
How To Serve It
Serve at cool room temperature, between 60°F and 63°F.
Decant for about 30 minutes to let the cherry fruit and herbal notes open up.
Pour into Burgundy stems to gather its high-toned aromatics.
Pair with wild boar ragù over pappardelle, herb-roasted pork loin, a Florentine-style bistecca, or a wedge of aged Pecorino Toscano.
