2016 Kopke, Colheita Tawny Porto - 750ml Format

Founded in 1638 by Nicolau Kopke, C.N. Kopke is widely recognized as the oldest Port house still in operation. Its reputation rests above all on Colheita, a single-harvest Tawny Port that ages in seasoned oak casks, known as pipas, for at least seven years and often for many decades before bottling. The house’s young Colheitas show the same care and precision as its rarest old releases, at a far more accessible price.

The 2016 Colheita comes from an excellent modern Douro harvest, blended from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Barroca grown on terraced schist. After at least seven years in seasoned oak casks, it shows the first stage of Tawny development: the color is shifting from ruby toward tawny, and fresh fruit is beginning to meet the nutty, spicy notes of wood aging. It is a lively, youthful Colheita in a full 750mL bottle.

Why You'll Love It

  • A young single-vintage Tawny from a standout 21st-century Douro harvest.
  • Fresh plum and dried cranberry on the nose, with cocoa powder and gentle wood spice.
  • Bright and generous on the palate, with fruit still leading the way.
  • A full-size bottle that stays fresh for weeks after opening, so it can be enjoyed slowly.
  • An excellent value way to explore Kopke’s Colheita program.

How To Serve It

  • Serve slightly cool, between 56 and 60°F.
  • No decanting is needed. It is bottled ready to drink and holds well after opening.
  • Pour into small white wine stems or a dedicated Port glass.
  • Pair with Stilton drizzled with fig jam and toasted walnuts, a dark chocolate tart, or warm pecan pie.
