2019 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron, Pauillac

Les Griffons de Pichon Baron 2019 offers wine lovers an exclusive entry into Bordeaux’s elite at a fraction of the cost. As the second wine of the legendary 1855 Second Growth icon Château Pichon Baron, this vintage represents the ultimate smart play for savvy collectors and enthusiasts. It delivers the precise craftsmanship, prestigious pedigree, and unmistakable depth of the Grand Vin, but is purposefully built to be enjoyed right now without waiting decades for cellaring. Made by the same technical team that crafted the 97 to 100-point scoring 2019 Gran Vin.

The 2019 vintage shines with an approachable, Merlot-dominant blend (59% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon) that radiates luxury from the first pour. Aged for 18 months in 60% new French oak, it yields a luxurious, full-bodied profile of ripe blackcurrant, dark cherry, tobacco, and violets. Thanks to a hot, dry summer that concentrated the fruit beautifully, this bottle captures a rare balance of pure, vibrant fruit, fine tannins, and an exceptionally long, memorable finish.

The wine world has taken notice, with critical acclaim confirming its status as a must-have bottle. Racking up a stellar 94 points from Jeb Dunnuck and 93 points from Antonio Galloni, critics call it a "captivating," "vibrant," and "super-expressive" Pauillac of immense substance. Bypass the $200+ price tag of the Grand Vin and secure a critically acclaimed, terroir-driven expression that delivers elite Bordeaux pleasure today and over the next 1o to 12 years.

How To Serve It

  • Serve at 60-64°F, slightly cooler than room temperature, to keep the fruit and minerality in focus.
  • Give it a 30 to 60 minute decant to let the tannins soften and the aromatics fully open.
  • Pour into Bordeaux stems, which showcase the wine's structure and long finish.
  • Pair with a herb-crusted rack of lamb with Bordelaise sauce, where the wine's fine tannins and savory spice notes meet their match.

Santé!

Critical Acclaim:

Jeb Dunnuck Wine Logo

94 Points, Jeb Dunnuck:

“The second wine of this great estate, the 2019 Les Griffons De Pichon Baron is a more Merlot-dominated release and is 59% Merlot and 41% Cabernet Sauvignon that saw 40% new oak. It has a gorgeous nose of ripe blackcurrant and darker cherry fruits as well as tobacco, smoked herbs, violets, and freshly sharpened pencils. Vibrant, pure, and complex aromatically, it's medium to full-bodied on the palate, has the vintage's pure, elegant character, terrific depth on the mid-palate, and outstanding length. It's a wonderful, already approachable Pauillac that will deliver the goods over the coming 20+ years.” - Jeb Dunnuck

Robert Parker Wine Advocate Logo

93 Points, Wine Advocate:

“The 2019 Les Griffons de Pichon-Baron was captivating en primeur. It is every bit as impressive today. A Pauillac of substance and depth, Les Griffons is super-expressive. It offers an exotic mélange of dark fruit, licorice, smoke and tobacco, with strong Cabernet Sauvignon inflections that lend savory aromatic presence. The long, persistent finish is exceptionally beautiful.” - Antonio Galloni
