Masseto

Masseto was never supposed to exist. In the early 1980s, a remarkable vein of ancient blue clay was discovered on a hillside overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea in Bolgheri, Tuscany. Against conventional wisdom, Merlot was planted on this extraordinary site, producing its first vintage in 1986 and eventually becoming one of Italy's most coveted wines. Born from the vision of Lodovico Antinori and legendary consulting winemaker André Tchelistcheff, Masseto helped establish a new standard for Italian fine wine. Today, the estate produces its iconic flagship alongside Massetino, its celebrated second wine, both expressing the remarkable power, elegance, and complexity of Bolgheri's ancient maritime terroir.
