2024 Murgo, Etna Bianco D.O.C.

Cantine Murgo is a cornerstone of viticulture on the eastern slopes of Mount Etna, with family roots in agricultural farming that span over a century. Baron Emanuele Scammacca del Murgo transformed the ancient family property into a modern estate in 1980, making them one of the pioneers of the modern Etna wine renaissance. Situated in the commune of Santa Venerina, the vineyards are strongly influenced by Europe’s largest active volcano. Here, the unique high-altitude microclimate features dramatic temperature swings between day and night, which slows the ripening process and develops exceptional aromatic finesse.

The 2024 Etna Bianco captures the pure, energetic personality of the mountain, relying on a classic regional blend of Carricante and Catarratto. The fruit is hand-harvested from terraced vineyards and undergoes a gentle pressing, followed by fermentation and short aging entirely in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. By completely avoiding wood contact, Murgo ensures that the natural acidity and distinctive minerality of the landscape remain unmasked. The 2024 vintage yields a wonderfully bright and chiseled white wine that balances juicy orchard fruit characters with a distinctive, racy tension.

Why You’ll Love it

  • This is a pristine and highly authentic volcanic white wine, highlighting the natural synergy between Sicily's top native grape varieties.

  • The 2024 vintage delivers incredible freshness, providing an energetic palate with a lip-smacking acidity that leaves an incredibly clean impression.

  • It features an elegant bouquet of white flowers, jasmine, green pear, and lemon lime zest, layered with an unmistakable hint of smoky flint.

  • The palate is medium-bodied with a beautiful, slightly chalky texture that leads into a persistent, distinctly savory finish.

  • It represents an outstanding everyday value for white Burgundy or Sauvignon Blanc enthusiasts looking to explore the mineral depth of Italy.

How To Serve It

  • Serve this wine well-chilled between 48°F and 52°F to preserve its crisp fruit definition and keep the mineral drive laser-focused.

  • No decanting is required for this fresh bottling; simply open and enjoy the immediate aromatic lift directly from the bottle.

  • Use a standard white wine glass to concentrate the delicate floral aromas and funnel the vibrant acidity perfectly across the tongue.

  • This is a benchmark seafood wine, pairing beautifully with grilled white fish, fresh calamari salad, or pasta tossed with clams and lemon zest.
