2025 Bodegas Gerardo Méndez, "Amizade" Albariño, Val do Salnés, Rías Baixas
Gerardo Méndez is one of the most respected growers in Rías Baixas, best known for his legendary Do Ferreiro bottlings from old Albariño vines. "Amizade," Galician for friendship, is a collaborative project built on old, dry-farmed vines planted in granite in Val do Salnés. This is the coolest and dampest corner of the appellation, where Atlantic air keeps acidity bright and flavors pure.
The 2025 was hand-harvested, fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel, and rested on its fine lees for several months, with no oak and no malolactic fermentation. That approach keeps the wine taut and coastal, while time on the lees adds a satiny texture through the middle.
Why You'll Love It
A precise, salt-kissed Albariño from one of Galicia's true masters of the grape.
Lime zest, white peach and green apple on the nose, with a breath of sea spray.
Satiny on the palate from lees aging, with granite-driven minerality and crackling acidity.
A crisp, saline finish that keeps you coming back to the glass.
A natural fit for raw bars, long summer lunches and anything pulled from the sea.
How To Serve It
Serve well chilled, 46-50°F.
No decanting needed; open and pour.
All-purpose stems will channel its citrus and sea-spray aromatics.
Pair with Galician-style octopus with smoked paprika and olive oil, oysters on the half shell, citrus-cured ceviche, or pan-seared sea bass with salsa verde.
