Tour de France: A Six-Bottle Journey Through the Vineyards

France is the world's most diverse wine country, and no single bottle can capture it. This six-bottle collection opens in the chalk cellars of Champagne, swings through the Loire for a classic Sancerre, heads south for a serious Bandol Rosé, then settles into Burgundy for a mineral Puligny-Montrachet white and a structured Beaune premier cru red, before finishing on Bordeaux's Left Bank with a decade-old Saint-Estèphe. Six bottles, six distinct expressions of what French wine can be.

MV Champagne Pascal Lallement, Premier Cru Brut — Montagne de Reims, Champagne, France

"The Grower's Long-Aged Brut"

Fourth-generation grower Pascal Lallement farms Premier Cru chalk-and-clay hillsides in Chamery, in the heart of Montagne de Reims. This Pinot-driven NV cuvée spends four to five years on the lees, unusually long for a non-vintage bottling, delivering red cherry, green apple, brioche, and hazelnut over electric chalk minerality.

Pair with: Pan-fried sole, roast chicken, or aged Gruyère. Serve at 45-48°F in a wide tulip glass.

2025 Domaine Laporte, "Cuvée R" Sancerre Blanc — Loire Valley, France

"The Classic Sancerre"

Domaine Laporte has farmed in Sancerre since 1850, now guided by the Bourgeois family with an organic, low-intervention approach. This cuvée is classic Sancerre: bright citrus, orchard fruit, and a chalky, mouthwatering finish.

Pair with: Goat cheese, herb-roasted chicken, or lemon-dressed seafood.

2025 Château Canadel, Bandol Rosé — Provence, France

"The Serious Rosé"

Perched in the hills above Le Castellet, the family farms organically and crafts wines that showcase the appellation's defining grape, Mourvèdre. True Bandol Rosé, structured and savory: clementine, white peach, jasmine, and a saline mineral core.

Pair with: Grilled fish, bouillabaisse, or a simple Niçoise salad.

2024 Château de Melin, Puligny-Montrachet "La Corvée des Vignes" — Burgundy, France

"The Tiny-Parcel White Burgundy"

Château de Melin's Derats family has farmed organically, Ecocert-certified, since 2009, now in its eighth generation. La Corvée des Vignes is a tiny 0.3-hectare parcel of Puligny-Montrachet, barrel-fermented and aged twelve months in oak (15% new) for real tension and minerality.

Pair with: Pan-seared veal and wild mushrooms, or go bolder with grilled lobster. Serve at 52-55°F in all-purpose white wine stems.

2022 Domaine Besancenot, Beaune 1er Cru "Toussaints" — Burgundy, France

"The North-Side Premier Cru"

Domaine Besancenot has farmed Beaune since 1850, and Toussaints comes from a north-side premier cru parcel on the same clay-limestone soil as the estate's other top sites. Extended barrel aging gives it real structure and a long cellar life.

Pair with: Grilled red meats, duck breast, or coq au vin. Decant 30-60 minutes and serve at 61-66°F in Burgundy stems.

2015 Château Coutelin-Merville, Saint-Estèphe — Bordeaux, France

"The Decade-Old Left Bank"

The Estager family has hand-farmed Coutelin-Merville since 1904, on the same clay-and-gravel ridge as Cos d'Estournel and Lafon-Rochet, with plots tucked between Cos and Montrose. In the warm 2015 vintage, a blend led by 50% Merlot and an unusually high 22% Cabernet Franc sidestepped the late-harvest rains that tripped up Cabernet-heavy neighbors. Ten years in bottle have softened the tannins: plush black cherry, graphite, dried violets, and warm tobacco spice.

Pair with: Roast prime rib, herb-crusted lamb chops, or wild mushroom risotto.  Decant 30-45 minutes and serve at 60-65°F in Bordeaux stems.
