2024 Calluna Vineyards, “Estate Blanc” Sauvignon Blanc & Sémillon, Chalk Hill AVA

The 2024 Calluna Estate Blanc is a sophisticated expression of the traditional Bordeaux blanc style, cultivated on the high-elevation slopes of the Chalk Hill AVA. This vintage features a refined blend of 75% Sauvignon Blanc and 25% Sémillon, drawing direct inspiration from the legendary white wines of Pessac-Léognan and Graves. Winemaker David Jeffrey, who honed his craft at Château Quinault L’Enclos in Bordeaux, employs a meticulous barrel-fermentation process using primarily neutral French oak with a judicious 10% of new oak. This technique achieves a perfect equilibrium—preserving the vibrant, zesty citrus and mineral core of the Sauvignon Blanc while allowing the Sémillon to provide a rounded, honeyed texture and significant aging potential.

Renowned critic John Gilman has awarded this vintage 92+ points, cementing its reputation as one of the finest and most consistent examples of white wine from the California North Coast. The 2024 release is a testament to the "Calluna style": bright acidity, moderate alcohol, and a deep, savory complexity that unfolds beautifully at the table. Whether enjoyed for its immediate freshness of lime and white peach or tucked away to develop nutty, waxy secondary characteristics, this Estate Blanc remains a benchmark for those seeking old-world elegance from California soil.

Critical Acclaim:

92+ Points, John Gilman, Master of Wine:

"The 2024 Estate White from Calluna Vineyards is crafted this year from a cépages of seventy-five percent sauvignon blanc and twenty-five percent sémillon. The wine offers up a beautifully precise and complex bouquet of fresh lime, pink grapefruit, gentle grassy notes, a fine base of white soils, citrus peel and a touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied and complex, with a lovely core of fruit, excellent soil undertow, a fine spine of acidity and beautiful focus and balance on the long and classy finish. This is better than most examples of white Bordeaux made these days. Fine juice. 2025-2035."
