While Montalcino can feel crowded with corporate money, Rudy Cosimi remains as down-to-earth as they come. His family’s roots in the region began with his grandfather—for whom this special cuvée is named—a local tractor repairman, and his father, who planted these Sangiovese vines back in 1975 when there were fewer than 30 producers in the entire region. Today, Rudy quietly works his land, crafting wines from sandy, fossil-rich soils that stand toe-to-toe with the most famous bottles in the zone.
Drawing incredible depth from 50-year-old vines, this 2021 release sits right alongside high-rent neighbors like Il Potazzine and Le Ragnaie, offering classic elegance without the eye-watering price tag. Open the bottle and you're greeted with expressive aromas of ripe cherries, blood orange, crushed violet petals, and dried Tuscan herbs grounded by a hint of sweet leather. On the palate, it hits that sweet spot of medium-to-full body, balanced by mouth-watering acidity and fine, velvety tannins that sweep into a long, dusty-mineral finish. It is a soulful, deeply satisfying Brunello that honors its humble origins with every sip.
