It is one of Burgundy’s great ironies that the most famous Volnay Premier Cru is actually located within the village boundaries of Meursault. Dominique Lafon is the undisputed master of this site, managing a significant portion of the vineyard under the Domaine des Comtes Lafon banner. His work in "Santenots" yields a Pinot Noir of profound depth and concentration, consistently rivaling the Grand Crus of the Côte de Nuits in sheer complexity.

"Les Santenots du Milieu" is the sweet spot of the vineyard, featuring red, iron-rich clay that imparts serious power, color, and muscular tannin to the Pinot Noir. Despite its formidable structure, Lafon manages to polish the wine into something intensely sophisticated and highly refined. Dense black cherry, dark plum, and turned earth command the palate, supported by a framework of seamless tannins and bright, lifting acidity.
