2019 Paolo Bea, Sagrantino di Montefalco "Pagliaro"

We’re thrilled to share a second allocation of the highly praised 2019 Paolo Bea Montefalco Sagrantino “Pagliaro”, one of the most coveted wines among collectors, sommeliers, and natural‑wine devotees. This iconic bottling has earned its highest Vinous Media rating ever—a spellbinding 97 points—and stands shoulder‑to‑shoulder with Italy’s most age‑worthy reds, from top Barolo to benchmark Brunello.

Simply put, this is a wine you make room for: in your budget, in your cellar, and in your long‑term drinking plans. Our allocations disappear in a flash every year, and this reload is in stock now, so acting quickly is essential.

97 Points, Vinous Media:

"Exotic from the first tilt of the glass ... youthfully intense, with a blend of rum-soaked cherries and a cascade of sweet spice, mixing dried violets with cloves, ashen stones and blood orange. This is elegant and refined, with silken textures and admirable weight, all supported by fresh acidity, as masses of ripe blueberry blend with sage and a salty tinge of minerality. Just a baby today, the 2019 is geared for the cellar. This is a spellbinding vintage of Pagliaro."

- Eric Guido, Vinous, Aug. 2024

The 2019 Pagliaro is a monumental expression of Sagrantino, sourced from the Bea family’s high‑altitude vineyard at 1,300 feet. True to the estate’s traditional methods, the wine undergoes a lengthy 40–50‑day maceration, followed by one year in stainless steel, two years in large Slavonian oak, and an additional year of bottle aging before release. Even with all that time, it remains a dark, brooding, intensely structured red that evolves beautifully over several days open.

For the uninitiated, imagine the leathery spice of Tuscan Sangiovese, the savory depth of Northern Rhône Syrah, and the saturated black‑and‑blue fruit of Argentine Malbec—all woven into one powerful, soulful Umbrian masterpiece. In the glass, it reveals an opaque garnet‑black core and layers of black currant, plum, mulberry, cassis, licorice, dark chocolate, wild herbs, roasted meat, coffee grounds, and winter spice. This is a thundering, long‑lived wine built for decades of evolution.

This is a primal experience—one that rewards patience, contemplation, and a deep appreciation for the Bea family’s uncompromising craft. Don’t miss your chance to secure this legendary release while it’s still available.

Motle Grazie!
