2020 Château Pradeaux Bandol Rouge

When the conversation turns to traditional French reds with serious, tectonic-shifting power, Château Pradeaux always commands the room. The Portalis family has been making wine at this historic estate since before the French Revolution, and they remain fiercely uncompromising today. While much of the modern region has pivoted toward softer, quick-to-market styles, Pradeaux proudly stays the course: they divert any vines under 25 years old exclusively to their rosé, reserving only their oldest, deepest-rooted trunks for this flagship red.

Hand-harvested, whole-cluster fermented, and aged for a staggering four years in massive neutral oak foudres, this 94-point masterpiece delivers a chiseled, poised muscularity. It comfortably outperforms triple-digit, old-vine Châteauneuf-du-Pape while matching the brooding, noble structure of a top-growth Left Bank Bordeaux—all for a fraction of the price.

94 Points, Vinous Media:

"The 2020 Bandol is a gorgeous rendition from Château Pradeaux, bursting from the glass with pronounced and highly complex notes of molten stems, wild strawberry, licorice and blackcurrant leaf. Made from 95% Mourvèdre and 5% Grenache, the 2020 is medium-bodied yet remarkably vivid, with the whole bunch integrated beautifully and the tannins already rounded into a lovely, textural shape. There is tremendous energy. The 2020 finishes long, fresh and full of beguiling verve, leaving a lasting impression of character and finesse."
