2007 Vignobles Bardet, Chateau Lideyre, Cotes de Castillon, Bordeaux
The Bardet family has been working in Bordeaux since 1704, initially as wine merchants navigating the region’s rivers before dedicating themselves fully to viticulture. Philippe Bardet, the current generation, has revitalized Château Lideyre, whose history stretches back to 1840.
Located in Gardegan-et-Tourtirac, just east of prestigious Saint-Émilion, the estate's 35 hectares of vines are rooted in the clay-limestone and Fronsac molasse soils of the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. Recognizing the ancient vineyard's potential, Philippe installed a modern drainage system to maximize his terroirs: better drainage hastens ripening, and riper fruit equals better wine in this corner of Bordeaux.
This 2007 vintage is 100% Merlot, farmed sustainably and harvested at ideal ripeness. After fermentation and aging in neutral barrels, this wine was rested in perfect cellar conditions for almost 18 years, slowly developing the complex tertiary aromas that only come with time. It’s now in its peak drinking window—the sweet spot where primary fruit has evolved into something far more intriguing, still retaining its vibrant spirit and structure.
Why You'll Love It
Perfect maturity without the wait: you get the reward of patient cellaring without the investment in time and storage. This wine has been perfectly kept at the château since its birth in 2007.
Extraordinary value: At just $29 per bottle on a 6-pack, this wine delivers the complexity and elegance of aged Bordeaux at a fraction of what comparable Saint-Émilion Grand Crus would cost—if you could source them at all.
Flawless terroir expression: The clay-limestone terroir of Castillon (the eastern neighbor of Saint-Émilion) creates Merlot with truffly, earthy depth, silky texture, and aging potential that showcases why Bordeaux's Right Bank earned its legendary status.
