2022 Tenuta dell’Ornella “Ornellaia” Bolgheri Superiore

Ornellaia estate in Bolgheri (Tuscan Coast) has become one of the most iconic blends in all of Italy. Modeled after a Bordeaux top growth, this estate, within 25 years, has had a trajectory that has put it on course with the First Growths of Bordeaux.

It shares the mantle with Sassicaia as one of Tuscany’s true “First Growths”. Prized for its impressive silkiness upon release, with a powerful Bordeaux-like structure is a must for serious collectors. Structured, but racy at the same time. An amalgam of chocolate licorice, sandalwood, soy, graphite, and espresso adds to the complexity. Appealing to both Super Tuscan purists & First Growth Bordeaux collectors at a fraction of the price!

Secure your bottles today and experience why Ornellaia remains one of the most iconic wines in all of Italy.

Tenuta dell’Ornellaia is the brainchild of Lodovico Antinori, who founded this gorgeous, sprawling estate in Tuscany’s Maremma in 1981. Vines were planted in 1982, and the first vintages were overseen by the legendary oenologist and winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff. Today, Ornellaia is owned by the Frescobaldi family, but like all of the Frescobaldi properties, it is run independently.

The estate produces a wide range of wines, from the entry-level Le Volte to the super-premium Merlot Masseto. To us, it’s the Cabernet Sauvignon-based Ornellaia that truly captures the essence of these unique vineyards and microclimates. Great attention is given to viticulture and winemaking. Each of the varieties and parcels is harvested, vinified, and aged separately, a process that can include as many as 80 separate component wines. Fermentation takes place partly in wood and partly in steel, while the malolactic fermentation is finished in French oak barrels. The wines are aged separately for roughly twelve months. The final blend is assembled, and the wines are racked back into oak for a further six months.

Molte Grazie!

Northwestern Italy

Piedmont

Italy’s Piedmont region is really a wine “nation”unto itself, producing world-class renditions of every type of wine imaginable: red, white, sparkling, sweet...you name it! However, many wine lovers fixate on the region’s most famous appellations—Barolo and Barbaresco—and the inimitable native red that powers these wines:Nebbiolo.

Tuscany

Chianti

The area known as “Chianti” covers a major chunk of Central Tuscany, from Pisa to Florence to Siena to Arezzo—and beyond. Any wine with “Chianti” in its name is going to contain somewhere between 70% to 100% Sangiovese, and there are eight geographically specific sub-regions under the broader Chianti umbrella.
