2021 Reinhold Haart, Riesling "Wintricher Ohligsberg" Grosses Gewächs
More often than not German Riesling doesn’t get enough respect or is often misunderstood. To cut to the chase, when done right, this noble varietal can achieve staggering quality and cellar for multiple decades. We’ve curated an amazing selection of alluring “Grosses Gewächs” and one library release Spatlese Trocken (Dry) that will make most Cru White Burgundy seem somewhat pedestrian and one-dimensional for a fraction of the price. The term Grosses Gewächs is used to identify some of the finest white wines of Germany and is specific to dry wines sourced from top vineyard sites.
This is an incredibly versatile food pairing wine, especially with highly seasoned ethnic cuisines. They are dry and full-bodied Rieslings that will amaze you for years to come.
The Ohligsberg vineyard is a steep, southwest-facing slope that rises from the Mosel river banks near the village of Wintrich. Big slate stones of blue and grey color mixed with quartz give the soil a rocky character. Not very water retentive but heating up quickly, the Ohligsberg is a great classic among the Mosel vineyards.
