2021 Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine, Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru

The Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine was founded in 1879, and so is now quickly approaching its 150th anniversary. The estate has always been in the heart of Pernand-Vergelesses, an ancient town that sits just behind the hill of Corton (viewed from the main highway) and is the only village in the Côte d’Or to have both red and white wines in villages, Premier, and Grand Cru appellations. Fifth generation winemaker Christine Dubreuil has been at the helm for over two decades, and since 2019 has been joined by her daughter Clémentine. This female led team is making some of the most regal, elegant, and terroir transparent wines in the Côte de Beaune, and as an added bonus they remain excellent values.

Christine and Clémentine farm a prime parcel that is located at the heart of this famous Grand Cru, at mid slope facing almost due east. The fruit is 100% de-stemmed, fermented in tank and then racked into barriques (30% new) for 12-15 months of aging. Though clearly built to age gracefully for many years, if you want to open a bottle in the next year or two give it a good, long decant and serve in your best Burgundy stems. A ripe, sappy nose of raspberry liqueur, black plums, sweet cherries, rosewater, crushed violet, leather, cocoa powder, porcini, and forest floor leads to a medium-full palate with firm structure and long, mineral flecked finish. Try it with the below recipe for a classic steak au poivre for a meal fit for a queen or king.
