2012 Mas Martinet, "Cami Pesseroles" Priorat (VM94 Points)

We’re thrilled to offer an exclusive opportunity to access two exceptional library vintage Priorats from the renowned Mas Martinet—an iconic producer who played a pivotal role in putting the historic Catalunya wine region of Priorat on the global stage. The consistently high-scoring 2012 “Cami Pesserols” and 2009 “Els Escurçons” epitomize the flagship varietals of the region: Garnacha (Grenache) and Cariñena (Carignan). These hardy vines thrive in Priorat's distinctive black slate soils, known locally as “Llicorella”,  which challenge the grapes to develop unparalleled depth and character. There is no other wine region in the world quite like Priorat, and these wines radiate an undeniable sense of place.

Family vintner, Sarah Perez is one of the most influential winemakers in all of Spain. She has been a guiding force in resurrecting traditional winemaking practices of fermenting and aging the wines in older chestnut barrels, clay amphora, and glass demijohns. No new oak is used and critically in how well these wines have aged.

Sourced directly from the Mas Martinet cellar library, these wines are currently stored in a temperature-controlled warehouse in New Jersey to ensure pristine condition. We’ve secured the remaining stock in the country exclusively for our members—each bottle is in mint condition and comes with impeccable provenance directly from the source. What more could you ask for?

New to Spanish Priorat? Imagine a fusion of an old-vine Grenache-driven blend from the esteemed village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Southern Rhône Valley) and a Cru Red Burgundy from a warm, generous vintage. These wines deliver an extraordinary experience, with layers of exotic tertiary spices and velvety tannins that linger on the palate for minutes. They’re truly singing on another level.

"Cami Pesseroles" is a multi-site blend of 80+ year-old Cariñena with younger 30-year-old Garnacha residing along an ancient mountain road from Gratallops to Porrera, where you sink knee-deep into the black slate. A homage to how Prioratos were made back in the old days. The wine is fermented in open chestnut barrels and aged in chestnut wood and demijohns for maturation purposes. Not a kiss of new oak in the fermentation or aging process. Layered minerality and rustic. Fans of aged Gran Reserva Rioja will appreciate this effort.

94 Points, Vinous Media:

"Deep-pitched cherry and dark berry aromas are complicated by suggestions of smoky Indian spices, minerals and floral oils, accompanied by a candied licorice note in the background. Fleshy and alluringly sweet, offering concentrated blackberry and boysenberry flavors sharpened and given lift by a jolt of juicy acidity. Finishes sweet, minerally and impressively long; smooth tannins arrive late to add shape and gentle grip." - Josh Raynolds
