2006 Schäfer-Fröhlich, Bockenau Felseneck, Riesling Auslese (Half Bottle)

We’re jazzed to be able to offer mint Library Germany Riesling of perfect provenance. This half-bottle of sweet nectar is a poster child of how incredible this noble varietal can be under the right conditions and in the right hands. Sourced from “Felseneck”, a Grosse Lage (Grand Cru) vineyard in the village of Bockenau, this is Schäfer-Fröhlich’s brightest star holding that has put him on the radar of the world’s critics.

Ask any German wine aficionado to name the country’s top estates and at the top of the list, sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with the likes of Keller and Egon Müller, will be Schäfer-Fröhlich. Under the guidance of Tim Fröhlich, this estate’s exotic, crystalline Rieslings have become some of the most coveted in the world, disappearing into private cellars and restaurants the moment they’re released.

Two Words: “Hedonistic Wonder”!  This belongs in your collection regardless if you’re a German collector or a newbie, but act fast, we have less than three cases to offer.

96 Points, Wine Advocate:

“ …  smells of pear drops, pineapple, cantaloupe, honeysuckle, lime, heliotrope, and herbal distillate. Elegant and positively delicate, this Riesling's tingling mixture of citrus juice and zest lend invigoration and grip, while creaminess of texture, honey, marzipan, and a light hint of caramel point to the subtlest-possible desiccation and ennobling, yet with no overt taste of botrytis. The finish is an unforgettable lift-off into gravity-denying realms of floral, herbal, and diverse fruit essences. Buckle your seat belt and savor this over the next 3-4 decades!” - David Schildknecht
