MV André Clouet, Champagne Brut Grand Cru "Grande Réserve"

The Clouet family first found the spotlight when they became the official printers for the Royal Court at Versailles in the mid-18th century (hence the ornate beauty of their wine labels) and their estate in the Grand Cru village of Bouzy dates back even further. Beneath this historic building lies their labyrinthine chalk cellar which still contains partial false walls that hid precious bottles during the Nazi invasion in World War II. With a plethora of historic grandeur surrounding him, Jean-François draws from tradition and time-honored techniques while embracing modern technology.

Bouzy is considered Champagne’s top site for Pinot Noir and Clouet's wines are bold and sumptuous and demand to be enjoyed with food. Spread across just eight hectares of Grand Cru terroir, grapes are hand-picked and sent to the cellar where they ferment in Clouet's “stainless steel giants” —and a small percentage of neutral oak. After marrying the base vintage with older reserve wines, today’s cuvée is bottled and aged in cellar for no less than 36 months. With such hallowed terroir, extended lees aging, and meticulous winemaking, this wonderfully balanced combination of creamy complexity, expressive fruit and minerality is unrivaled in this price range.

           Why You’ll Love it:

  • A masterful wine that strikes the balance between the full-bodied/rich mouthfeel and the crisp acidity/stony minerality that we all crave from the best Champagnes

  • Aromas of sliced yellow apples, pineapple core, preserved lemon, freshly made brioche and honeysuckle jump from the glass. A concentrated palate evolves into red fruits, hints of red currant, lemon curd and toasted nuts
  • Incredibly delicate bubbles with a golden-yellow core that moves to green reflections on the rim

    How to Serve it:

  • Avoid serving in thin traditional flutes. Opt instead for an all-purpose stem or a flared tulip

  • Serve just below cellar temperature (about 48-50 degrees)

  • Enjoy on its own as an apéritif or pair it alongside a crispy platter of fried chicken...the ultimate beauty-and-the-beast pairing!
